Forging independent businesses.
At IndieForged, technology is never the starting point—it is the enabler. We carefully evaluate and test modern no-code platforms, selecting only those that are reliable, practical and work seamlessly together. The result is an integrated digital framework that acts as the central nervous system of your business, connecting your website, marketing, customer communications, sales and operations into a single, cohesive ecosystem. From the moment a prospect discovers your business through to becoming a loyal, repeat customer, every interaction can be captured, managed and measured. Just as importantly, we choose platforms that your team can confidently learn, own and operate. Our goal isn't to make your business dependent on us—it's to equip you with digital systems that empower your business to grow independently.
Meet John Swanepoel
Principal Consultant
John Swanepoel is a software entrepreneur, business intelligence consultant and digital strategist with more than three decades of experience helping organisations use technology to strengthen customer relationships, improve decision-making and accelerate business growth.
He began his entrepreneurial journey by founding Neuratech, a customer relationship management (CRM) and Knowledge Management software company. Neuratech's flagship product, Common Knowledge, was successfully implemented across many of South Africa's leading Private and Merchant Banks, with an international deployment at HSBC in the United Kingdom. Following the company's success, Neuratech was acquired in 2001 by a UK-listed technology group.
After the acquisition, John transitioned into corporate consulting, where he spent nine years designing and developing Business Intelligence solutions for Shoprite Holdings, South Africa's largest retailer. He subsequently spent five years consulting to Pick n Pay, helping expand and mature the retailer's Business Intelligence capability. Working alongside executive leadership and business stakeholders, he developed decision-support systems that transformed complex operational data into actionable insights, enabling better strategic planning, improved operational performance and deeper customer understanding.
John later returned to entrepreneurship, founding and growing the internationally recognised Swartberg 100 Gran Fondo, which became part of the UCI Gravel World Series, before establishing GravelGrinder Tours and subsequently founding WildForged, a premium South African manufacturing business.
Across these ventures he independently conceived, built and managed every aspect of their digital ecosystems, including brand strategy, websites, e-commerce, CRM, marketing automation, content creation, performance marketing, analytics and customer acquisition systems. WildForged's digital platform now attracts more than 26,000 monthly active users, achieves a 47% engagement rate, and delivers Meta advertising traffic at approximately R0.40 per landing page view.
This unique combination of enterprise consulting, software product development and hands-on entrepreneurial experience gives John an uncommon perspective. Having built businesses from the ground up—and having designed, sold, implemented and scaled customer-focused software solutions himself—he understands both the strategic and practical challenges faced by business owners.
His consulting philosophy is grounded in measurable business outcomes rather than marketing theory. Through IndieForged, he helps small and medium-sized enterprises build sustainable digital capabilities using carefully selected no-code technologies, practical business processes and staff training that reduces long-term dependence on external agencies. The goal is not simply to deliver a website or marketing campaign, but to equip businesses with the systems, knowledge and confidence to grow independently.
Meet Sarah-Mae Swanepoel
Creative and Project Co-ordination
Sarah-Mae Swanepoel has always been drawn to the space where creativity, communication, and organisation meet. For the past several years, she has worked alongside her father to build and grow multiple businesses. From project coordination and operations to customer relationships, administration, and creative problem-solving, she has worn many hats — and discovered a deep passion for bringing clarity and order to complexity.
These experiences have shown her that a great idea is only the beginning. Real success comes from strong foundations, clear systems, effective communication, and the ability to keep many moving parts working in harmony. One of the most valuable chapters in her journey was helping mould the internationally recognised Swartberg 100 gravel bike race from its inception in 2016. Managing logistics, administration, volunteer coordination, and the countless behind-the-scenes details demonstrated the true power of thoughtful planning and collaboration, reinforcing the impact of calm, organised leadership in bringing a big vision to life.
Across every business she has been part of, she has naturally become the person who connects the dots — sees the bigger picture and builds the systems that allow everyone else to do their best work. Whether improving communication, streamlining processes, organising projects, building websites, or helping teams collaborate more effectively, she is energised by creating alignment between people, ideas, and operations.
She believes good organisation isn’t about rigidity — it’s about creating the space where creativity and growth can thrive. When the foundations are solid, businesses become more sustainable, and people can focus on what they do best.
She helps independent business owners build strong, clear foundations for themselves. Rather than creating reliance on an agency, Indieforged focuses on equipping owners with the knowledge, confidence, and tools they need to manage and grow their own online presence.
For her, real success isn’t doing everything for a business. It’s helping owners see the full picture, connect the dots, and build something sustainable, authentic, and genuinely their own.
